Traditional appraisals have many shortcomings. One of which is that they are not timely. Yearly reviews usually only takes into account the last 2 months of performance - what the manager can easily remember. The solution to this is actually quite straightfoward, but it's difficult to implement without software since keeping track of events is scattered.
At any time, managers can document these significant events, accomplishments, discipline - anything they feel should be noted. And these notes are incredibly simple to add and edit so users won't have any trouble adjusting to a new system. In fact, it couldn't be any easier. The large "Notes" button is located in the navigation bar, and adding a note is as easy as clicking the "Add Note" button.
Employees also have the ability to record notes on their performance. At any time throughout the year they can record whatever they need to. They can make these notes visible to the manager or hide them as personal.
Note preferences allow for managers to take notes on their direct reports, all subordinates or anyone in the organization. Employees can take personal notes only, but can additionally take notes on: users with the same manager, same job title, or all users.
All notes related to the employee will be displayed during his or her appraisal. The manager and employee easily see these while scoring the appraisal to make sure ratings are accurate. Of course, notes that are not visible to the manager won't be displayed.
